Depends what part of Australia you are going to.
Vic and SA can get quite cold in the winter, but then you have the Qld and the top end of NT that is hot all year around, especially in the tropics...
Hottest months - Nov - April.

Snow is good if you want to ski, but it's a bit late for the ski season in the Alps. Tropical rainforests, Cairns, Port Douglas, Great Barrier Reef? Get in quick before the Wet starts or wait till about April. Alice Springs, the Red Centre, Uluru and Kata Tjuta? Get in quick before the weather gets really hot out there or wait till about March - April. Great Ocean Road, southern rainforests, Tasmania etc? Now would be a good time. Perth? Now would be a good time.

Australia is a huge country with a variable climate both spatially and temporally. Depending on where you are and the time of year you could be in a tropical monsoon in northern Australia or a blizzard in the Snowy Mountains.
Go to the Bureau of Meteorology web site for all climate information for anywhere in Australia

Fine and sunny, but not too hot, are pretty much the best weather conditions to visit anywhere.
