Decide what you want to say about love or pain or whatever else and simply draw an image that illustrates that.
Once you have an intent, ideas come much easier.

A humanities professor turned me on to a site called deviantart.com. Don't go by the site name - there are some beautiful pics, photos, drawings, etc there.
Maybe by viewing the work of others you will get an idea or be inspired.
Since you specify love/pain - deviantart has lots of ideas - but sign up for the free version. Very cool work - and a place I have found inspirations I would not have thought of.

Love means nothing without pain. If you want to see a truly brilliant depiction look at Gustav Klimt's painting "The Kiss" it's not the the lovey dovey picture you think it is.
Notice how the man is the only one doing the kissing. Notice how they're on the edge of an abyss of nothingness. Notice her mouth is closed.
If you really want to learn and develop your art look at and imitate some of the masters, your own style and conversations will start to come naturally. It's okay to imitate someone and it shows knowledge and maturity when it's done well.
Also look at Juan Antonio Roda's work especially his etchings.
