It's apparently a variant of Bethany which means, and I quote... "Means "house of figs" in Hebrew, from a biblical place name. In the New Testament Bethany was the town where Lazarus lived."

mine is Ranee and mom named me this because her mom (my grandmaw) who died when my mom was only 16 told her if she ever had a daughter to name her Ranee... so Ranee is my middle name :)
