A friend's mother just died, and my husband's mother is close to passing as well. We have a 6-month-old daughter. What should she be wearing to the funerals? Do they even make black baby clothes? If you have any experience with this, please let me know! Thank you.

Your baby can wear anything. It's okay, and it's acceptable to bring the baby to the funeral, btw. Having a little one around will bring smiles to people's faces during a very difficult time. My son was at his great-grandmother's funeral at age 2.5, and people actually thanked me for bringing him.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your friend's mom, as well as your MIL's illness.

Well first of all I must say that it is your choice whether or not you take your child to the funeral. The baby does not have to wear black but I would suggest something darker, no bright colors. When my BIL passed away earlier this year his 7 month old niece attended and was perfectly fine. It may just make someone smile when they see your child!!!

Emily, you don't have to go to the funeral with 6 months old baby. Any way don't take her there. The point of life is not cherishing the bad moments but remembering all good things passed in it. Just remember what she was like that day and hug your kid. Being not present there.. won't mean that you don't feel sorry for her.
All the best...

no black... just put baby in whatever is comfy and weather appropriate - dress her like you were going someplace nice - like church or a family dinner out

they do make black baby clothes... but really it's not necessary...

when my daughter died, my niece was 4 months old... it was winter too... but my sister dressed her in a warm one piece fleece lined denim outfit, that had little angels embroidered on it. I felt it was very appropriate.

And I've seen babies at other funerals just wearing the same thing they'd wear to church... it's different for them... they're just along for the ride, not in mourning.

so sorry for your need to ask this question (((hugs)))

It doesn't matter what the baby would wear, but I wouldn't take the baby to the viewing or funeral but it might be nice to bring the baby to brunch/get together after wards.

I really don't think it would matter what type of clothes a baby would wear but I agree with the other post, people don't generally bring babies to a funeral. I find that very odd that someone would.

it doesn't matter what a baby wears at a funeral (trust me, it really doesn't) they're not supposed to wear black
and it's no problem if you don't bring the baby (she's only 6 months old) actually it would be better if you would leave her with a babysitter

i wouldnt bring the baby both funerals, just the one for your MIL and only because she is family. i'm attending a funeral tomorrow and am getting a sitter. a crying baby during someones funeral isnt something i would want to deal with.

It doesn't really matter what the baby's wearing, as long as it doesn't draw unecessary attention (i.e. no bunny costume or something like that). When I took my 6 month old to my grandmother's funeral he wore a navy blue sleeper.

Most adults wear black out of respect for the people who are mourning the death. A baby is not mourning anyone. You can put the baby in any color.
