A hard question indeed. Britain has always done 'a fine balancing act' between our cousins over the pond and mainland Europe (or the continent if you like). Every British Prime Minister has had a different outlook on the world. One thing for sure, there hasn't been a World War 111. Our place in the world IS assured so don't knock it!!

One true ally is the kingdom of Nepal. The Gurkhas come from there and are one of the most feared and respected warriors. The British fought them a few centuries ago and were so impressed by their courage that after hostilities they became firm allies.

Truthfully? Yes. The USA is of course the biggest technical ally, as are all commonwealth nations. (Nations such as Canada and Austrailia that used to be British territories.)
However, I detect a sense of sarcasm in your question, so therefore as to the validity of each ally, that is subject to personal opinion.
