I'm sure some honestly prefer their name and no doubt some do it as a symbol of still being their own person but also those in more public fields (anchors or anyone who deals with people for their job) would either forgo their husbands last name or adopt their husbands name but not change their professional name.
Just imagine if actresses or models always took on their husbands names, we would quickly forget who was who. And another point, some men choose to take on their wife's name instead. It's a rare occurence but it does occur.

In all legal matters and social matters, I have his name - but in business, I just use my maiden name, as I have built 'a name' for myself...and no need to add confusion.
I know who I am - I know I am my own person. I know that I didn't become a part of his property or any other such nonsense....I'm happy to take his name and have the two of us start our lives together with one family name...

In my case, it's a way to preserve the name. In my family, I was the last one born with the name. My parents had no sons so there's nobody to carry on the name. I also have no cousins so there's nobody there either. I think that one of my nephews might adopt the name sometime in the future since it is a much less common name than his father's. One of my daughters also wants to start using it because she has a very unusual last name and she's sick of the stupid comments and jokes about it.

I've often wondered that also. I heard someone say they didn't want to take another man's name. Umm, usually your last name is a man's name, your father. Until recent times anyways. Now, single mothers use their last name, which is their father's name. So essentially, whether the last name comes from your mother or your father, at some point in time, it was a man's name!

Many cultures incorporate the woman's name into the children's names, at least.
My name reflects my heritage and background, and I wish to keep that part of my identity.
Show me in the Bible where it says I have to take my husband's name and I'll do it. You're submitting to your RELIGION'S dictates, not God's, in this matter.

why should they? I am my own person. I want to be known as myself, rather than someone's wife. Also, maybe some feel strongly about carrying on their last name. I changed my last name because his sounded better and I was looking for an excuse to get rid of mine lol, but if I ever get married again, I won't change it.

Because often these women have their own identities and careers and are known professionally by their own name - or they might just like their own name. Women today don't need to be adopted by their husbands.

Some women who choose to keep their own names have already established a professional identity in their own name and feel that it's simpler to just keep that name.

Because their last name is their last name.
Why don't men take on their wives' last names?
Ain't nothin' getting me to change my name. I like my name, and it's MY name.
Any woman who wants to change her name is free to do so.
