The technical reason is fear of what is different, or the unknown.
That which people can not classify as similar to themselves is usually looked down upon or feared.
Find people with similar interests and you'll experience far less of this in your life.

Well.... everytime I catch myself gossiping or spreading rumours, it is usually, to be honest, because I am jealous. I feel threatened or I envy the person I am talkign about.
They talk bad because it makes them feel better, probably, and they think that by putting that person down, they bring themselves up.
Its not the right way to do it, but its life.

thay have no life themselves or their lives are so miserable that they talk about others so that folks wont look at their own lives
