Oxygen; forming oxides of the metals.

Look in the periodic table and find the alkali metals. They seriously make a bang even if it is only 1mm of water - so much some have to be kept in oil!
They are:
Lithium Li
Sodium Na
Potassium K
Rubidium Rb
Caesium Cs
Francium Fr

copper does not react well with cold water, but it reacts with sulfuric acid to make copper sulfate , a nice blue colour.
Gold does not react well with anything, that's why it stays shiny, and it's worth so much.
Silver does not react well with water, but does react with nitric acid to make silver nitrate

Aluminium (aluminum) is inactive in water because of a coating of aluminium oxide which can be removed with nitric acid or potassium hydroxide, then the ali takes off, whoosh!
