n an equation, when the units are e.g. mol.dm-3/mol.dm-3. these units cancel out (1/1). So what would you say the units were, or just no units?

Dimensionless or unitless.

There are no units. It'sa dimensionless number. An example is specific gravity or specific heat. The density of a substance in g/mL compared with that of water in g/mL is just a ratio.

i believe it is called 'dimensionless'.

or just a ratio. like if Sam has 2 dollars and Dave has 1 dollar, Sam has twice as much money as Dave.
