US Army intelligence manuals provided to Latin American military officers attending the US Army’s “School of the Americas” advocate executions, torture, blackmail and other forms of coercion against insurgents and sanctions the use of “fear, payment of bounties for enemy dead, beatings, false imprisonment, executions and the use of truth serum” to recruit and control informants. War is indeed hell. Those who make peace impossible by training more soldiers and making more weapons are therefore guilty of bringing hell to earth.

It is a conservative axiom that we must all face the consequences of our actions regardless of the context. They call this personal responsibility and it is the basic premise of the individualist dogma.

Since it is it is quite clear that the US government trained thousands of Latin Americans for the purpose of fighting for a variety of state and non-state clients, and since the soldiers were put to use in war against Latin American guerrillas and dissidents in Anti Communist and Coca eradication operations partially or fully sponsored by the US gov. (through its Alliance for Progress), it is therefore correct to say that the US brought war (hell) to the people of Latin America.

The US does not have a right to bring freedom to Latin Americans. We never asked for it. The US does not have the right to spray defoliants on Latin American crops. Coca is a sacred plant to the Andean people. They have used it responsibly for thousands of years. US trained soldiers in Latin America do not serve the Latin American people, they serve US interests.

I will not go into their crimes or whether they are even legitimate soldiers. I have addressed those matters with a vehemence that has earned me a bleeding heart reputation. What I will discuss is what an army of hired soldiers unleashed upon Latin America means for our sovereignty.

Our sovereignty is squat, nil. Simply not there. Latin America has been the backyard of the US for over a century. Which means we have not had very many true democracies. The US waged war on Latin American soil against Latin American critics of Latinh American governments.

They had no reason to start a war against us, to bring hell to us. The US had no right to collaborate in the 9/11 1973 coup against Salvador Allende. They had no right to send their private armies to hunt down Ernesto "Che" Guevara, a true Latin American patriot whatever his faults. US companies have no right to pay US trained paramilitaries in Colombia to kill union leaders and wage a war on Communists guerrillas with legitimate agendas. No, the US does not have the right to bring hell to the Latin American people.

We have not benefited from the several US incursions into our affairs and territory. In fact, very many of our civilians have been murdered by these US trained militias. Our own torturers have been overwhelmingly trained by US agents. The Dirty Wars in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, which are recognized as crimes against humanity, have been characterized by US and US trainees involvement. The regimes that carried through these Dirty Wars did so in order to protect their own power and US interests.

Why did the US do it? Well, why did Hitler invade Poland?

First lets get this straight. In Vietnam we took over for the french and it started as a police action and escalated into a war. Second the war in Iraq started as a war and has turned into a police action. As for me supporting the president I think he lied about WMDs and I think he has probably lied about many other things. Do i follow blindly no I don't like him and have not since his first election. For someone who thinks the economy is doing well and that we have won the war he has no clue. I`m not going to say the Dems are any smarter but at least they are listening. In my humble opinion we need to quit being the police of the world and just start taking of what we have here and let the other people of the world find out that without our help they will not survive. Do we lie in this country? No more than any other country. Unfortunately people seem to think we should be the answer country. There being attacked and we are suppose to come in and save them. They need economic help call the Americans. Need help with agriculture call the Americans. They will help they help everyone. Now that we are out of this mess we can say what we really mean they are the Dirty Americans they want to subvert us and kill us and rule the world. Sorry if you can take our money and our military aid you should be an alie not a subversive.

You can believe what you want, and take this as a grain of salt. But any site that has open editing and individual's account of history is by no means the source I would use.

About your source link.
"Anyone who registers on the website and becomes a member of a timeline project can submit content. Membership is free. Once a user becomes a member, s/he can edit existing event summaries by clicking the edit link that is next to that event (the user must be logged in to see the edit link). In addition to editing existing events, users can also add new ones to the database. Registered users who add content are called “contributors.” Since the project is still beta, and since we do not have enough editors at this time, membership is restricted to a relatively small group of users."

I don't doubt this happens, despite the fact that our government always claims it doesn't. Still, not everyone engages in these tactics. My grandpa interrogated people in intelligence, and he used reward systems and compassion. I think that's the best way to get results, but others are sadistic and filled with hate.

Yes, I heard about the School of the Americas several years ago. One of our locals actually served prison time for protesting in front of the school. They said she "trespassed." I think it was six months she spent in prison. Her name is Clare Hanrahan.

And then you get the second responder to your question who is quite blase about something as evil as torture. I guess the fact that the Pentagon has said repeatedly that TORTURE DOES NOT WORK carries no weight.

EDIT: You know, I've never walked into a Starbucks or had a latte in my entire life, I cannot fathom why they always throw out those "coffee zingers" like they mean something.

Why do Liberals cry for diplomacy with terrorists when it is a concept that eludes them?

Darn I hate the thumbs down. Can't ever get an answer to an honest question around here. And I'm really not too impressed by these baiting ones.

Give me an honest game any day. Politics in real life is cleaner than playing with the Libs on this board, and that is really saying something!!

Why are you posting something from 1996?

Better yet, why aren't you asking why the President at that time sanctioned such terrible things?

It's really sad the long history that we have propping up sadistic mass-murdering regimes throughout this hemisphere in order to maintain control over them and their resources. In order to oppose communism and to maintain corporate profits we have been responsible for many deaths and suffering.

I don't know..."Why does Trouble Maker support speaking out of his *** as if he were a professional military leader with professionally gathered information from a newspaper (not a government agency) from 11 years ago, when in fact he is a liberal malcontent with no life?"
