Who ever said it didn't know the price of Glenfiddich Whiskey or the consumption of Mr. Eyedontnose!

It depends on the two people. If they are both reasonable consumers, one isnt a glutton and doesnt eat huge amounts of food, then it could be, or could be close.

It takes two people who are basically the same, and it takes more creative cooking. If you have steak all the time or eat out, then no.

I live alone and if I make beef stew, I end up throwing out some of it anyhow. Same with spaghetti sauce, chili, homemade soup, some casseroles, and other concoctions. So in that case, two could live as cheaply as one.

You will use twice as much hot water, for laundry and showers, or baths, unless you shower or bath together.

IF you bath together you will use 1/2 as much water as a single person would. :-)

If one of those two is a good money manager, then it is true.

My Hubby and I are an example. He was a spendthrift before he met me, and now we live on his salary alone, and live better than we ever did before.

I grow much of our food, and I know how to make very low cost, nutritious meals. I also am good at finding bargains in furniture, and I make all our own curtains, and household decorations. Over our many moves throughout the years, I have always been able to find the best buy in houses, (or rent, in the early days). I am very frugal in everyday life, reusing amd making do. We wear good quality clothes from the charity thrift stores, and most of our furniture was free from other participants on Freecycle.org

Now that I don't have the other half to contend with, I definitley can live cheaper as one.
He always had to have the heat or air conditioning on. He used more water. He wanted meat at every meal. He spent more for gas in his truck.
My water, gas & electric bill has been reduced by half. So has my groceries.

I never found that to be true, it seems that the other person always wants to eat, take showers, use electricity, etc.
Now taking showers together when you are young is one thing, but by the time you get to be seniors,,,well,,,,,in any case, you can only live on "love" for so long.....
