can anybody out there tell me how the intarder on my DAF 85 works (I understand what it does ,I drive one every day I want to know how it does it) and is there a web site I can go to to see any diagrams ?

The intarder, so called because it is a retarder incorporated into the gearbox instead of being a separate unit, operates by restricting the the output shafts turning motion hence providing a braking effect through the transmission. This slows down the vehicle in the same manner as braking does but becomes less effective as the speed drops. You will have noticed during driving that its effect is felt more when used at higher speeds.
