The greatest thing about being an American is our freedom to question our elected officials.
The beauty of being an American is that we're not bullied into shutting up by being threatened that speaking our objections is "unpatriotic". Speaking our minds, objecting to what we find unconscionable and peacefully protesting ARE the epitome of patriotism. The Nazi's tried to shut people up by intimidating the masses into submission through the threat of labeling them "unpatriotic", but Americans are a lot harder to muffle. We don't get bullied by our public servants, so easily.

I support any candidate from any party who speaks the truth and has OUR country's welfare in mind.

Edit:
The thumbs down is obviously from someone who doesn't believe that it is our right to be a part of our nation's decision making. That's disagreeing with the BASIS of democracy!
It's a shame for people like that to live in a democracy like the USA, when they would be just as happy in Saudi Arabia, where you can't question the government. If you like democracy, you have to accept the fact that the American people NOT our public servants rule this country.

Being oblivious to the World outside of the window of America's SUV on a smoggy day in LA; keeping count of the humans that America has killed with their military in War in the last 60 years, something like 1,500,000, One million Five Hundred Thousand foreigners from small countries all over the World, mostly Vietnam and Iraq.
Also watching two Texas ex-governors try and lead America in a Regional Warfare and subsequently breaking American hearts and Treasure of the United States. Also, watching Republicans claim that we can not afford health care for all Americans while the rich get fat headed on false pride.
Also, watching American Republicans destroy the American Dream by being simply simple, loudly greedy, plainly deceitful and unchristianly unkind.

Agreeing with most here, I believe freedom is "the greatest thing about being an American."
I am free to go where I want, when I want, believe what I want, be who I want.
I am free not to disclose personal info.

Freedom. I like not having to wear something covering my head and body and not being told WHO to worship..It's all about Freedom. I am SO proud to be an American. Are you really asking or are you curious to what other's think? If you're really asking because you might not enjoy it here, it concerns me that you live here and are not proud of it.

Freedom. It seems like a standard answer, but think about how many people in the world don't have it.
