I don't think that this case was blown out of porportion. I sit here a person who is of mixed race, and I am not only insulted but outraged. I would also have the same reaction if black kids put nooses on a tree that white kids sat under. It was very wrong for the youngsters to attack 1 person. Violence is never the key. However, let's get the facts straight.
A fight occurred before that one, where several white boys jumped one african-american boy. So both sides were wrong. I know there will be some ignorant racist person who disagrees and that is okay, because your reaction is expected.
The white boys who jumped the black boy never had charges brought up against them. Yes there should have been punishment for both parties. But imagine if it were a white kid sitting in jail, and you were his mother or father. Would the tables then turn? Racism is wrong, whether it be blacks assaulting whites and slurring due to racism, or vice-versa. People wake up, No Prejudice and Racism is justified!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. This is how frustrated I am. When will we ever get it. DUH!!

This is yet another case of things being blown out of proportion and being whipped up by politicians seeking publicity. First - there should have been a more severe punishment than suspension of the offending students who hung nooses from the trees. This was a demonstration of hate and racism. These students should have been expelled. Second - I do not believe that the six students who participated in the assault should have been charged with attempted murder. They meant to beat him up, but murder was never an intent, nor the outcome. The six students should have been charged with assault with intent to inflict bodily injury. Third - Justice will not be served by letting the six go unpunished. They did commit a violent crime. Everything else has been whipped up into a bigger deal than it should be. Let common sense rule of law prevail, not hate and emotion.

If I read right it was a group white guys fighting a black guy, then a group of black guys fighting a white guy. So both sides are cowards no matter what race. Fights do happen in schools immature and ignorant minds can be dangerous.

There is no excuse for a 6 to one assault. If they thought they were being provoked then a one on one confrontation but a 6 to 1??? Cowards is not even close! Trash, pond scum, or maybe the good old fashion n word......I do not know any details but some folks wear their hearts on their sleeves.

This clearly shows how blacks and whites are so alike. White people used to get up set and beat up a innocent black man. Now that a group of black kids got up set and beat up a innocent white man, both sides want to play hypocrites. The town in which this happened is racist on both sides. Rest of the country should not follow. Let the town figure it out and heal. For all the black demonstrators, go home. The shows over.

Lets put it this way if it were 6 white guys on one black guy the same number of black people would be there demanding the full penalty of the law. And they would not have cut the tree down either. The plague is among us we must find a cure.

There's a word for that...
Cowardly Beatdown.
Making this whole issue into a big racial smokescreen is despicable disgusting and sickening beyond words.
If The Rev Dr Martin Luther King were still alive I dare say He would not support six cowards for beating down one boy.
This whole thing makes me physically sick.

There might very well be a double standard in Jena. I wouldn't know. Perhaps racism is prevalent. However black folks are picking the wrong battle here. They are defending a bunch of thugs who jumped a kid until he was unconscious. As a white guy I see this as reverse racism. Black people should be condemming these kids for perpetuating the image of black people as violent criminals. Instead black folks rush to defend known criminals. You have to pick your battles wisely in life, and this one is making black folks look foolish, even if they are correct in their accusation that racism is rampant in Jena.
