Yes. There is usually more than one way.

If you'd given any kind of example, it would be easier to answer more specifically; I'll have to be as vague as your question.

There are many problems that can be approached algebraically, OR geometrically. Either approach gives the same result, they're just different ways of looking at and dealing with the problem or situation.

There's also use of different strategies, such as guess and check, versus calculation; or working backwards vs working forward.

The way math is taught hides this fact, but all math is connected and inter-related.

lots of good answers here. It is just like driving to your favorite restaurant. There are lots of paths to get there. Some are just better than others.

For example: There a number of ways to find the slope of a line. You can use two points on the line and find the difference in the y coordinates and divide that by the difference in the x coordinates. You can also put the equation of the line in the form of y=mx+b and then m=slope. different methods. Same result.

Answers are dependent on the question parameters and validity of their respective premise.
Ex. What is a number.
This could be any number! 3.14 for example (except zero wich is a null cipher, and infinity)
Ex. How many ways can you fill an empty sack from 4 sacks of the following denominations: 1,2,3,4 (Ans 24)
Ex. How many ways to cross a stream.
Ex. subtract 8 from 17
ADD NINES COMPLIMENT of 8=1 , 17+1=18, 1+8=9
Ex, (a good one) How many ways of converting a decimal number to binary?
