Like so many movies, it just isn't the book. In fact the climax would have been a lot better if they had stuck to the book.

I'm still trying to get a copy of the original epic before the Christian monks got hold of the story.

I want to see it, but I have some reservations.

It looks as though all the principle photography is actually rotoscoped CG, like the Tom Hanks film The Polar Express.

Sadly, if this is the case, I may pass on it, as I personally cannot stand unnecessary CG.

When I first saw the trailer to Pathfinder, I thought this was the Beowulf film everyone was excited about. And I was getting really excited as it played, making plans to see it.

It had the look, the raw, bleached color suggesting the cold Nordic landscape, it had the costume design and production values. Karl Urban really could have been Beowulf . . .

Then I found out it was about so-called "Peaceful and innocent" Native Americans who communed with nature, hunted and terrorized by "Evil Viking Invaders" - real Nordic Vikings never had horns on their helms - so that blew it for me.

Apparently the made for cable mini-series is quite good and faithful to the original story - unlike Starship Troopers - so I will have to look it up.

Yes, I know, it has Angelina Jolie as Grendel's mother, but she is not the ONLY beautiful woman out there . . .

Meh, there was a movie made about this less that 5 years ago. I have that one and it's pretty good.

I doubt the new one with more funding will be better...
