Some faiths agree with you -- and in their traditions, dogma is not taught -- spiritual understanding comes through personal experience, and the teacher is only a guide.
Some faiths disagree -- and they see the teachings and dogma as a necessary structure that enable a person to seek the spiritual understandings -- and that without that structure, the person is unable to find their way to the divine.
Different belief systems work differently.

I think it depends on the preacher's message. If the preacher tells you that there's only one way to believe and that you're going to Hell if you don't believe it, then yes, I'd say he or she is cheating you out of the experience of developing your spirituality individually. However, many ministers are more concerned with developing your character - or making you into a decent human being. I believe that should be the ultimate goal of every religion anyway, but that's just my opinion. If a preacher approaches your spirituality with the goal of assisting you in your path, rather than guiding you, I think he or she is doing you a service.

Organized religion..... all of them... are typically led by people who claim to speak for god, and anyone who doesn't agree with them is a blasphemous "sinner".
You won't find god in a church. You won't find him in any book including the bible. You won't find god hanging from the lips of any preacher. He's in you, and everything you do.
One good deed is worth a lifetime of prayers. Those who pray for salvation and mercy while simultaneously promoting ill will toward others are hypocrites of the worst kind. Knowing the path isnt' the same as walking it.
I'm sure the true god doesn't appreciate human beings speaking for him, labeling their faith, judging for him, and using his name to condone the most immoral acts on earth (e.g. war).
the good news is...you can only be cheated out of your spirituality if you choose to be.

No, we go to them because a natural part of that experience is seeking guidance. If it wasn't preachers, it would be shaman. Same thing really. Why is this in the Politics and Government section, incidentally?
Remember: In life, just like in math, there are infinitely more ways to be mistaken than there are to be correct.

Like all things you must be guided ot the truth. Logically there is only one correct religion, that's common sense. Part of religion is realizing you are nothing, you are dust and you can never udnerstand or even hope to understand everything. Priests are their to help us find God.

Good try, but we were created to worship God therefore we need to be led to the truth. There is a natural desire to seek out our maker. Our culture seems to push the god of me.

Absolutely. Try to keep an open mind, read up on different religions yourself....follow your heart, believe what YOU believe, not what someone else told you to....

No. Some teachers are bad, some are good, of course.
But if a child is not taught religion (or any other subject) wht they experience is ignorance.
