Two stupid guys one 18; the other, 16 got together and were riding in a truck that had 2 flimsy "hangman's" nooses tied to the truck's rear.
Police quickly stopped and arrested the duo. Cops are using up a "DWI" charge on the driver, the 18 year old. The 16 year old is claiming the whole messy matter was HIS idea and that he created and tied the nooses. He's being held on "mischief" charges. The Alexandria DA is looking into filing hate crime charges.
Doubts exist hate crime will stick. One, there's NO evidence anywhere on the truck to suggest these nooses were intended for ANY one race people. The incident, done at a pivotal time in current world events, does not LEGALLY suggest why the nooses were there on that truck.
We can say it's done due to the "Jena 6" black mass march rally / protest---but you can't LEGALLY PROVE IT.
Bottom line: you don't go to jail for offending or hurting one's feelings. You go to jail for physically hurting someone.
