1st. Obviously there is a color divide in Jena
2nd. The color with the most control just got busted (I *ain't* talkin' 'bout the ones who have been held in jail!)
3rd. It is clear the community needs to find a better way to integrate and balance power and control than what they've been doing.
4th. It sucks the white kid got beat up. The 6 who ganged up on him are wrong for having done that. It sucks that idiots hung nooses in a "whites only" tree. The kid with the bruises from the beating probably feels like there's no comparison, but when you're in a setting in which you feel you have no control, you will resort to any means necessary.

So, the community has a lopsided power balance, it's causing the weaker group to lash out with tangible violence against the oppressors. That's what happens in these situations. It's called revolution.

All that said and understood, really, this whole march and stuff--I get the feeling that it's a desperate attempt to recapture the spirit and energy of the civil rights movements of the 60's. It's not gonna happen. Being perfectly honest, my confidence in the whites of Jena truly establishing a fair balance of power is very low. I do believe that the kids involved in this single incident are less likely to be over-prosecuted for their crimes, but with the media circus, I believe it's possible the kids who beat up the one kid may get off free--and that's not right, either. If there was some way they could bring *all* the people complicit in all the various aspects of that noose incident to justice, that would be *the* foundation for a healthy, forward-moving resolution. Things like that are always conspired, though, so very hard to solve. The 6 kids who beat up the one kid next need to have their trials for their crime fairly judged.

It sucks, but it's reality. One thing that annoys me is that it only reinforces the stereotype of the white southern racist. The most oppressive racism I've ever witnessed--and I grew up in South Carolina--was in New England. Not gonna go into that, but suffice it to say this whole Jena thing is just too easy for the media to sensationalize now and later forget--once it stops selling papers/commercial time on TV--to really represent any "movement."

I am ashamed of what answers you are getting for this question. These answers are coming from racist, ignorant and just stupid people. I bet you they haven't even read the whole story. I think that the blacks are the only ones who have the courage to stand up to this country and it's racist crimes against the people. I sent a petition to the governor and the DA of that case in Louisiana. I hope those 6 guys get lesser charges. It is an outright shame. It just tells you that the Constitution means nothing to the local courts. Oh! And to the stupid guy that said that God is not going to bless the movement, maybe you should read the Bible before you talk about what God would bless and what he wouldn't.

cutting-side feminism is very distinctive to the unique women's rights stream, which fought for difficulty-free human rights for women. one hundred years in the past, the stream replaced into plenty mandatory; I help those targets, and that i'm happy that ladies have now carried out equality. i've got by no skill met all and sundry who's against women's rights. i'm no longer a feminist because of the fact feminism isn't mandatory to any extent further at present - women are greater effective than equivalent in lots of components of the criminal device. i might describe myself as an equalist or humanist, because of the fact i think of we would desire to help the persons of the two genders in want, quite than finding in any respect women as sufferers of male oppression. cutting-side feminism is approximately specific rights and gender neutrality, no longer equivalent rights, and that i do no longer agree in any respect with it is goals. additionally, helping a stream and advocating it are somewhat some issues... I help animal rights, yet that would not inevitably make me an animal rights activist.

If a crime was committed, as in this case, then there should be punishment. The severity of the punishment is what should be questioned. The young man who was beaten up by 6 people--did he sustain permanent damages, broken bones, life altered? Was this attempted murder? I don't condone violence of this nature, it seems like there should be punishment for the criminals.

I live in Louisiana and I think it probably will be a big boost to the economy of Jena unless of course the blacks do not clean up after themselves. The bad news for Jena is that they will probably be forced to cleanup their racist attitudes. I'm also sure Jesse and Al are loving the spotlight and their dumb followers are having quite a time of it as well. But of course, I live in the 'Chocolate City as Ordained by God' according to our black mayor. So, what do i know.

To me it shouldn't be a march for these boys who committed a crime. It should be a march about equality. That if you punish one group for the same crime then you have to punish the other.
The school was practicing segregation and it needed to cease. The town in itself is messed up.

I think about it the same way God thinks about it.
It's disgusting, and He won't bless any of it. He won't bless the 6 blacks,. and He won't bless the whites involved either.

Isaiah 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

(I wonder if the Reverends Shaprton and Jackson are familiar with this verse?)

I think it's a horrible thing when six beat one and people rally to free the six. ALL crimes should be punished. Good luck. 2D
