Well its good if you want him to live short. Try also asking him if the wants a mustang, 300C or impala. It still a good choice. Let him decide. Try it for his 3rd car.

I bought my own corvette without the help of my parents at 19 years old, though it was a 2001 Z06, it wasn't the new 505 horse one. It ran a 12.1 @ 119 with a stock filter and me driving--- it was a factory freak. The car was fun as hell to drive, and at that age, it was a nice treat to have people oooh and ahh at your car. I did not get into any accidents, nor have any issues, but I must say--- I did get sideways in it daily and race anyone who gave me a second glance and a rev. That's just what comes along with that age group (at least for gearheads like me). It was over 100 every day on a truck bypass. The tires lasted about 5800 miles. If you mean safe in an accident, an all fiberglass car is not the safest idea. If you want safer car with similar performance, a Camaro SS isn't a bad idea, though it still has a lot of fiberglass on it.

I think it's a bad choice, not from the stand point he might kill himself, he could not 100mph in most any car. The problem is most teenagers do not take very good care of their first car. It gets beat up and dented from the school parking lot, and the interior gets trashed from all the junk they carry. I bought my daughter a 98 Grand Am for a first car for 2500 dollars and it lasted her thru high school. She managed to rub the paint off the bumpers from her and her friend bumping each other at school! She also never washed it and it was full of food wrappers! This surprised me as I'm a Mustang guy who's always taken care of his cars and thought my daughter would learn from example. Buy him a nice dependable car, but not a 55k Corvette

I would say that this probably wouldn't be the best plan. A 2006 Z06 is coveted as one of the best sports cars ever made. It has about 500hp and will do 0-60 in about 3.8 sec. Price, somewhere in the neighborhood of $70000. Hope this helps.

You've got to be kidding! I've had 3 of them and as a mother, I would never allow any of my sons to have a Vette as their first car. Unless of course you want to see your insurance go sky high as their easy to speed in (great for lots of tickets when kids are driving them), made of fiberglass so each dent is "another story" and not only that but a first car should be a car that is not a hot rod fast car and one that doesn't go from 0 to 100 in a matter of a few seconds. My sons are spoiled but NEVER that spoiled. If they want Vette's, then they have to pay their own insurance and be a lot older than having it as a "first car". Pleeeeezeeee! THINK BEFORE YOU DO THIS!

As a long time owner of a corvette and see how teenagers drive. Just buy him a gun to play with it will be cheaper for you and you can spend the rest of the money on his funeral. Teenagers can't help but to show off and speed kills. Also he may kill a number of other people and then your on the hook for being so stupid. Don't be a fool with your sons life and other lives.

Certainly not!!! He'll kill himself. If he has to have a fast car buy him a Mustang first, but don't get the GT. It still goes pretty fast and he's more likely to live. If he doesn't like your decision tell him to buy his own car. I can't believe you'd consider buying him a car for 55-60k. Think about the insurance if he wrecks or something. Good luck!

Its an excellent first car if you don't want him to live for very much longer, but he'll wreck it in the process of killing himself. If you value his life, but don't really care about the car, get the Ferrarri instead. Those are designed to save the occupant's life in the event of the inevitable high-speed collision.

they are rear wheel drive and very fast....if you dont want to be attending his funeral in the next few months you better reconcider

your son is dreaming for a first car he doesn't need to have around 500 hp in the car. if you let him get them install a govenor to regulate the amount of horses he can use.
