Okay.... I think Richard Harris, Dumbledore in the first 2 movies. R.I.P. Yes, he showed Dumbledore as the extremely wise and caring man we find through the books. His voice was just like I imagined it, too. But, I will give the new Dumbledore credit-- In the fourth movie, the new Dumbledore yells at Harry, asking him if he put his name in the Goblet of Fire. At first, I was like Dumbledore would never be that mean!! But, the new Dumbledore does show the tougher side of him, since he had a very hard past, which we learned in the seventh book. Dumbledore and Harry are close, but not quite as close as I first imagined them to be. For example, Harry realizes he never spoke to Dumbledore about Dumbledore's past. Also, they speak to each other in the first few books, but not a lot. They only speak about serious stuff...such as after Harry fights Quirrell/Voldemort in the sorcerer's stone or when Harry sees into Voldemort's mind in the fifth book....they don't have everyday chats. Harry often does not know where Dumbledore goes. Even in the sixth book, going to Dumbledore's office for their private meetings, Harry considers this an honor/privilege. Harry anxiously waits for Dumbledore's invitations, and Ron at one point comments on how important stuff must be if they are having private meetings. So, perhaps Richard Harris portrays Dumbledore as we all want to see him, and he did a wonderful job, but Michael Gambon does portray the wise but tougher side of him.

Mr. Richard St John Harris
died October 25, 2002 aged 72

Michael Gambon
that plays dumbledore is ok, but not as good as richard

RIP

forgot to say how:
He died of Hodgkin's disease in 2002, two & a half weeks before the U.S. premiere of Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets.

He had first declined the offer to play Dumbledore; however his granddaughter heard the news & had a very good shot at playing the role, his granddaughter told him that if he did not go back and take the part, she would never speak to him again. Against his will, he got the part.

Richard Harris was the original Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies. He died shortly after filming was completed on the second movie. He was replaced by Michael Gambon for the third movie.

The first actor died, so they had to get another one in. I really liked the original actor, more than the second actor.
