The peak year for divorce is indeed 7 years after the wedding.(as in the film)

Lots of couples have taken the matter out of the equation by not getting married in the first place. The Proposal I saw eminated from Germany and it was simply that civil marriages are for 7 years with an option for renewal.

I haven't sussed out what happens to the children or how the house and pension and future earnings are divied up.

Any thoughts?

Well if they're gonna do that they would have to decide all that crap before they get married, it would probably have to be a law to have a prenup. Its sort of a good idea and bad. See people might just stick it out for 7 years hating each others guts just because they no there is no recourse (divorce) to deal with if they wait a little longer. OR people will feel glad they made it the 7 yrs and stay married bringing them closer together having renewed thier vows. Imagine having a great big party every 7 yrs to celebrate being married! That'd be cool!

Any thoughts i have are ... And as you said! What happens to the children? Indeed most couples seem to have problems at one stage or another and 7 years seems to be the worse year but not all couples go through this.

It's sad really. Makes me think of Vegas where you can hire wedding rings for so many weeks or months only. And isn't marriage supposed to be a life long commitment? No i don't think it's good but then ... That's me! others might think it a good idea.

I'm not trying to be a smarta**, but this is about the 5th question posted here about this 7 year plan. Look, if you add to the marriage vows 'until 7 years we decide to part' then it really isn't a marriage vow at all. Believe it or not, there are some people who take their vows seriously and really wish to be with one person for the longhaul. Think we are becoming way too cynical about marriage; that's all we need is amendments to the ceremony being added and added and added.

Sounds good to me. Except I would add a joint account be set up where all monies are withdrawn for marital living expenses. This account would be divisiable 50/50 upon dissolution of the marrige irregardless of individual contributions. Each partner would also have separate accounts which would not be subject to division. Visitation would be split 50/50 as well, unless the sides agreed to a different schedule due to schooling or distance or whatever. If abuse or neglect should arise, then the courts would decide the best interests of the children.

Sounds like a Socialist Liberal Utopia. All the goodies with out the commitment. No one to blame, who cares about the path of devastation after wards, you get everything up front. But that's those crazy Germans. Always willing to lead their country in a new direction.

Is it me or does that woman make you think of Hillary, too?

This coming from a woman who has been twice divorced. Well it is one way to get on TV, and get yourself noticed in the papers!

"After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.

Fifty-year-old Pauli, twice divorced, is a maverick intent on shaking up her male-dominated and mainly Catholic party which has dominated Bavarian politics since World War Two.

"This is about bringing ideas into the CSU and starting a discussion," she told German television on Thursday after she had unleashed a wave of criticism from other politicians.

Crazy Germans. ;-)

Anybody who uses a number to justify their actions probably shouldn't consider getting married in the first place.
