They refused to have the ROTC on campus, treated the minute men despicably, but now want a terrorist to speak.

Yes, they are hypocrites and it's beyond despicable. The very fact that they receive some funding from the tax payers to continue on with their leftist propaganda, angers me even more.

I'm outraged!

I can't stand people who promote racism, hate, anarchy, etc. in our country (there are plenty of them). However, I believe we need to separate our hate for a guy who kills our troops, denies the Holocaust and threatens Israel with annihilation, from our desire to spread democracy and demonstrate our open society.

This is President Bush's reaction:

"This is a country where people can come and speak their minds," he said, adding, "It would be wonderful if some of the countries that take advantage of that here allowed it for their own citizens there." [Bush could never speak in Iran]

Believe it or not, the overwhelming majority of students and faculty at Columbia don't believe what this guy says is acceptable, but this is a country where disagreement is tolerated. Democracy has a price and we pay it every day with s**t like this. Am I pissed this guy is speaking? D**n right! Our country (never mind Columbia) is not hypocritical. We tolerate this kind of stuff constantly, but at the end of the day, it's worth it. The world watches us closely.

I hope Columbia crushes this guy.

Hey, I see some people getting it, the main focus will be on the anti-war and Democratic support more then Ahmadinejad. What is ironic and treasonous is that Iran is aiming their missiles at our troops in Iraq as we speak and Americans are hosting his butt here, and Iran will beef it up when he (Ahmadinejad) will be speaking here in the US. Watch the news it will soon leak out, like everything else that they leak. Wait hold up! This is NY Times that we are talking about, disregard what I just said. They don't care about our troops or our country.

They do not ban than from the ROTC from university. While it is true many of our Ivy league colleges do not allow ROTC training on their campuses..but that has been in place since the Vietnam war.

They do not allow them to recruit in person, but there are others ways they do recruit from those campuses.

Students treated the minutemen poorly.

No source needed honey. We all remember that, except for these ignorant kids who just got in to politics and CURRENT events in the last 2 months. He's an idiot. Probably the same people that think Ron Paul is a good choice. These kids know nothing about politics in history.

Columbia can do whatever they want to do with their campus... I live in Texas, I don't worry about private educational institutions that my taxes don't go to... As a matter of fact, I have been away from college for many years now; I got better things to do than pick on a university.

If you have a problem with this university then just make sure your kids don't go there... jesus, problem solved.

It is a sad thing about our society. We take chances when we shouldn't. I would hope that the university would consider the message that it seems to be sending out. I'm sure that the Iranian leader will not be delivering a speech about how he has supported terrorism throughout the world. Instead, I look for him to try and recruit sympathizers and followers of 'The Cause".

I am glad I am not a student there. I would be demanding a refund of my tuition and immediate transfer to an institution of higher learning, not an institution of political agendas

I know. Columbia university is an ivy league school! I have respect for it but their recent actions have made me wonder what the hell are they thinking?
