i just purchased 10 songs of itunes
and no matter what i do....(synching unsynching restarting the computer)
they will not load onto my ipod...i have purchased hundreds of songs before
anyone knows what i am doing wrong?

Have you tried Authorizing your library? In iTunes go to "Store" then "Authorize computer". Then try and sync your iPod. That should work I had a problem similar to yours.

It could be the usb cable, but you may also want to restore your ipod. you will have to download all your songs over again. That happened to my ipod too.

You should buy a new USB calbe, yours might be damaged and not working correctly anymore. This would happen if you didn't 'Safely Remove Hardware'.

Maybe it is your security or firewall on your computer. You should disable it or change some settings on it.
