Well OK actually I can afford it, but can you see the stupidity of the attack? Just because someone doesn't have something doesn't mean someone else owes it to them. Even if it's not their fault they don't have it, that STILL doesn't obligate someone ELSE to provide it to them. A free society means individuals are not bound to each other in that respect - they aren't responsible for each other, they're just responsible not to harm each other. If you're obligated, simply by the fact that you exist, to support someone else - that's the opposite of liberty. It's the opposite of the principles on which this nation was founded.

Captain Collector the social safety net for people who fall through the cracks is funded with a tax burden that in turn widens the cracks.... It's a government game of musical chairs. And if you were right and I were wrong then unemployment wouldn't be HALF of what it was when we did it your way and HALF of what it is in countries that do it your way.

Shinobi, it is Truthsayer, Truthwillnotbesilenced, Truthisback and Truthsfifth (posted under another handle before Truthsayer).
Every time I get to Level 3, Y/A suspends my account.
Because I speak out against having to support people I've never met through tax dollars funding more government cheese!

The way I see it, if you want something, you have to earn it. However, there are homeless people who don't have the money for anything, so they go and ask people who do have money if they can spare them some change. In other words, they expect to be provided money instead of earning it themselves.
But, the fact is, not everyone can afford to send their kids to college or university since they cost thousands of dollars. They can send them to school up until Grade 11 since there are no public schools for post-secondary education. After that, the kids will have to make their own way to college by getting a job, thus they have to look after themselves and their families.

I see your point! So, if I could afford 12-year-old Scotch, I'd want to hoard it all for myself or share it with only my closest friends. The hell with everybody else - because, after all, I am not responsible for my fellow man, only responsible not to harm each other!
So, what you're saying is that I needn't look out for those in our society who might be disadvantaged, disabled, sick, elderly, underprivileged, unemployed, homeless or hungry - as long as I've got 'mine"!!
So, I guess if I were the CEO of a multinational billion-dollar corporation and don't have enough revenue to earn adequate quarterly profits, it doesn't mean that the government owes me anything in the form of corporate welfare such as abatements, grants, bail-outs or tax advantages. -rko- 09/21/07

No we WON'T develop a plan to enable you to fall deeper into the grips of alcoholism, just like we won't develop a plan to help others fall deeper into poverty and dependence...we will however get you help, as well as those in poverty...a hand up not a hand out...that's our motto.

Well you obviously don't know your history there has NEVER been a successful democracy ANYWHERE that did not have a social safety net, so go ahead and inspire class warfare and see how well any of us do in those circumstances we choose to provide for the less fortunate because it is in our own long term interest to do so
