No problem. I assume that you will be returning the vehicle to the place the place that you rented it from , that you have a major credit card and that you or whomever is renting it is is over 25.
I'm gonna save you some money
I would rent a Mercury Grand Marquis from a neighborhood Hertz location,
The car comes with unlimited mileage , will comfortably cruise all day at 80mph and get 27mpg
The cheapest place to ever rent a car is not at the airport; use a local location.
Proof based on a one week rental w/ unlimited mileage
Ford Taurus rented from Hertz in Duncanville $ 266.15 -out of the parking lot price
Rent the same vehicle out of DFW $450.91
It seems that the Grand Marquis are popular vehicles Bc I'm having trouble finding one to compare prices with
Most local locations are closed on Sunday
and are usually closed by 6:00 pm on weekdays
AAA membership will save another 10-15% on cars and lodging
Bottom line:Rent the biggest most luxurious vehicle you can that offers unlimited mileage
because when you spend a lot of time in a vehicle comfort becomes a necessity

RE:
Can I rent a car for an out-of-state trip?
I am trying to get me and my family (brother and parents) from Dallas to Boston and am considering just renting a car and driving as opposed to paying $300 per plane ticket. Do car rental place allow this? Is it really cheaper? I called one place but he said that they don't do that, does this...

Only big rental companies( herz, avis, budget...) without mileage and out of states restriction, mabybe cheaper because you have total 4 passangers. the rental cars are usually brand new( less than 2 years), most can get average 30mph( compact or middle size car), that is $0.1/mile.
Driving is fun, you can see a lot of places, but if you just want to point to point, don't waste time and hotel fees.

If your car isn't a piece of junk you should be fine. And it's cheaper too. 300 miles do not wear that much on tires or the car itself. Just so long as you have low mileage you should be fine. I from from PA to TX (1500 miles) in a 99 toyota corolla 3 years ago and was fine.
