Do I have correct answers for these?

1.252 x .115 x .012 = .0017

(1.278 x 10 to the third) / (1.4267 x 10 to the second) = 8.958

505-450.25 = 54.3

Please help. I am so confused.

Actually it looks like you have a very good understanding of sig figs. Your answers all look right, except for possibly the last one.

Without any information about what you are calculating, it's hard to know for sure. When you have a number that is an integer count of physical items it is assumed to have an infinite number of significant figures. For example, when you have a six pack of colas you know that it is EXACTLY six cans. There is NO uncertainty because you can't have an extra 0.1 can by accident.

But since there is no information about what the numbers in the last problem represent, I would say that you are safe with those answers. Congratulations!

1.252*.115*.012= .0017 Right
8.958 Right
54.8 Wrong

You juust made a silly error on the last one. Other than that, you seem to know what you're doing.

the first and second one are right, (as far as sigfigs go, i didnt check the actual math on any of these). When you are dealing with multiplication or division, the answer needs to have the same amount of sigfigs as the number with the least amount in the problem. So with number 1, since .012 only has two sigfigs, the answer needs two sigfigs, which .0017 has two, so its right. Same goes for number 2. When dealing with addition or subtraction, the answer needs to have the same amount of "places" as the number in the problem with the least amount. 450.25 goes to the hundreth place, while 505 only goes to the ones place. So the answer needs to go to the ones place as well, which would be 54.

No. Your first answer should have three digits. (0.002)

Your second answer is correct.

Your last answer should have no digits to the right of the decimal point (54).

Your resulting significant digits should have no more digits to the right of the decimal point than the shortest number in the computation.
