I need suggestions and recommendations. I know how to go to hotel.com, expedia, etc. but if you know nothing about the area, it's hard to determine what is a nice place that's also in a nice, safe part of the city. My sis and her hubby are looking to spend a weekend there, seeing Monticello and are looking for a nice, maybe even romantic place to stay. Thanks in advance!

Fortunately, Charlottesville is a "college town." If it were not for UVA, it really would not be considered a city. Most of the hotels serve the family of the students, or the fans of the football team. Most of the nasty parts are off the beaten path.

My fiancee works in Charlottesville, an hour commute from where we live. So, we stay in Charlottesville every so often. The first three are hotels that we have stayed in personally. The first two are in the city of Charlottesville proper, and they are OK. The third one is in Waynesboro, while not actually much nicer than the other two, it's further into the mountains and we had a lot of fun at that one. (It was just special to us, and we loved it.) Of course, I doubt that everyone else will have the same magic that we had there.

The next two are some higher end hotels. Never stayed there, but they are in nice areas and have a higher quality.

If you are looking at a specific hotel, post it here and type in "Virginia" completely. I do regular searches on "Virginia" and I rarely search "Va." I can look into specific hotels a little bit closer.

Good luck!

I used to live in Charlottesville and I can tell you that the best way to have a relaxing and romantic weekend there is at a bed and breakfast. Waynesboro is a nice town, but there shouldn't be anything there that isn't in Charlottesville. Just walking around some of the town around the campus will romantic, especially with the leaves changing. The people at the Foxfield Inn will take very good care of your sister and her hubby, i.e., restaurant and activity recommendations.

If they are wealthy, they need to stay at Keswick.
