There are plenty of books, classes, and other resources to help you learn genetics. But if you want to learn the human genome, or that of any other species, prepare for a lifetime of single-purpose, focused dedication to the task, and hope you have a good memory. A capable mind willing to do this could make some serious contributions to society! Try to keep up with, and put into perspective, all the new discoveries about what specific genes do and how they are controlled. Teams are looking deeply into tiny specs of the genome, but I don't know if anyone is trying to keep up with the big picture. Good luck! I hope you're serious.

Try reading something by Matt Ridley, like 'Genome', or Dawkin's 'The Selfish Gene'. Both popular literature, very readable, and fascinating.
