As a short term solution, maybe.
But here are some more ideas to prevent this sort of thing:
-better availability of free counselling services for anybody who may require them
-dispose of the post modern teaching that there is no absolute right and wrong
-teach young people to value individuals over cultures and ideas
-stop feeding the commercial and media beasts that raise children to be self absorbed and disconnected from the real world around them.
just my thoughts. More guns in the right hands would certainly help, but it'd be better if we didn't really need them.

Absolutely!
Blame it on the fact that the schools are afraid to discipline a bully. Don'tblame it on the guns...
Blame it on the fact that our young children are being brain washed by the "X-box" where a child can pretend to be a killer. Don't blame it on the guns...
We're training our combat troops on virtual programs that are less violent than "HALO3"
Believe me, not many kids are going to go into a school, where the teachers are "packing" heat.
They don't have to do it every day, alternate, or have them redily availabe in every hallway and floor, just like a fire ax.
Impose the death penalty for any student killing another. No extenuating circumstances.
What good to society is a young person who is going to spend the next 60 years in prison??
Give them a uniform and send them to IRAQ.

Im from the uk where we have the tightest gun control laws in the developed world. We also have almost no murders compared to the US even in ratio to your larger population. Im not saying you cant kill some one with a baseball bat but its a lot easier to kill many people from total legal and phsyical safety when you have a gun that can fire dozens of bullets or over a mile away.I couldnt beleive the VT massacres had put more guns in schools. Weapons dont make things safer there designed to kill and in the hands of panicing kids there just tragedy waiting to happen.

Are you really shocked and surprised? We have the most dangerous schools in the modern developed world and even out of it. In the U.S. we tolerate a level of violence in our schools, parks and streets that is unheard of in Australia,Canada ,Europe,Japan,Korea,Oman and many many more countries in the world!
I remember European colleagues not knowing whether to laugh or cry when they heard that the response to the Virginia Tech massacre ws to allow MORE guns on campus.
Why don't we all just arm little Susie and Johnny every morning along with their peanut butter sandwich before sending them off to school so they'll be SAFER?
Today on military Q&A I read a veteran's reply to the effect that although the VA had certified him as mentally disturbed he was able to purchase a weapon (firearm) in Georgia after they ran the usual check .
Are WE AS A NATION mentally disturbed?

Now, please explain what tighter gun control would have done to stop this from happening.
>Are you prepared to make knives illegal? What about baseball bats?
>According to your logic, you would also have to outlaw vehicles seeing that they are responsible for 160x the deaths in this country that guns are.
>Remember that alcohol was once prohibited completely and how well did that law keep alcohol out of peoples' hands?

Absolutely, if the other Delaware State students had guns now they wouldn't be dead would they.
Check this out, 50,000 + Americans were killed on our highways last year in car accidents, I think we should outlaw cars. Your logic, not mine. Cars kill people... a lot more than guns. Get the cars and save lives can be your new campaign.

GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. Just kidding. I always wanted to see if that sounded as stupid to say as it does when I hear it.
