I don’t think so!
That is giving them WAY too much credit.
They may take lives, they may take property and create economic havoc, but they can’t take my freedom.
So, is the war in Iraq about my freedom or the Iraqis freedom or both?
I just don’t get how people can buy into these stupid slogans.
Please someone explain.
Thanks for reading!

So, because of terrorism the government has the right to take freedoms away, right?
Government: “We’ll save you! Just hand over you freedom, don‘t be scared…. trust us”
Loss of life is not loss of freedom! Ask a vet.

Michael H, “So how do you stop others, and believe me, it doesn't have to be terrorists, from taking our country; from destroying the Constitution? You fight for it!” who is destroying the constitution, who has that power?

The slogan might be stupid as you claim, that does not remove the fact that you already mentioned, they can take your life, or worse yet, the life of your loved ones. My property can be replaced, but my children are irreplaceable, and it is my sworn duty to protect them to my best ability, and if that means killing terrorist where they live instead of where I live, then game on, and I will fulfill my duty.

Mike, this is really sometimes hard to understand, but I will explain it for you. Terrorist can take your freedom by taking our country. You may say how can they do that? If there is nobody to defend the Constitution, then our country is essentially dead and your freedoms are forfiet.
So how do you stop others, and believe me, it doesn't have to be terrorists, from taking our country; from destroying the Constitution? You fight for it!
Currently, there are no soveriegn nations that are at war with us. We are currently at war with a fanatical religious movement that has the money and the resources to kill enough of us to prevent us from defending the Constitution and hence our freedom.
So, now that you have a better, more clear understanding of why we are fighting terrorists in Iraq, do you still think that the liberal democrats who want the terrorist battle to be fought here in the United States or in Iraq? Which to you would be better for your children? To have the terrorist kill their own people and families or kill your family?
And please don't tell me they can't do that because they did and 3,000 people were killed and families were destroyed by these terrorists.
ADD: Excellent question Mike! The fight we are waging is not only in foriegn lands, but also here in this country. We have to fight to maintain the values and ideals established by that Constitution we protect. We need to keep those who promote socialism and communism from gaining power and support. In other words, we need to keep liberal democrats from ruining this country from within.

Freedom? What is it?
We know what dark is because we've experienced light. We know what hot is because we've experienced cold.
Have you experienced the other side of freedom as it relates to your country and your republic? I haven't. So I do not have a very good feel for the loss of freedom.
I do know what I've seen and been taught about tyranny, chaos, anarchy, restriction from travel, corrupt armed factions posing as police, imprisonment for no reason, etc.
I'm pretty sure I don't want any of that. In fact, I like this place I'm in right now because I don't have to worry about any of that for me or my children.
Evil is out there whether we want to admit it or not. More importantly, if we aren't the big dog in this world, someone else will be. And we may not like the way they do things. In fact, I'm pretty sure it won't favor the freedom of the "people".
Most likely it will become our worst fears.

The war is not about any sort of freedom. There are more reasons than we realize, and they belong to the men behind the curtain. There's no point in whining or complaining about justifications for this war.
To skooz above, how exactly did the Iraqis take away freedoms of 3,000 people on 9/11? You cannot be that ignorant.

The war in Iraq is purely about Iraqi freedom, but if it's successful it may preserve our ideals of freedom by spreading them. You yourself will probably not become more or less free as a result of the war alone.
"They want to take your freedom!" Yeah it is a pretty stupid slogan, it's partially true, but no one in politics every offers a complete explanation. Quality analysis is too wordy for the average American. That's also why they paint Iraq as either all Al Qaeda, all terrorist, or all insurgent when in reality it's a myriad of factions.

Depends on the meaning of 'freedom'. I doubt they're any real threat other than the obvious. I suspect the more we cater to their hatreds the more we succumb to their hatreds. It's in the Bible by the way. Easy as cake.

No but the reactionary nut jobs in our government can in response.
If the terrorists really wanted to destroy freedom, our government gave them exactly what they wanted.
There is nothing to fear but fear itself.
They may take our lives but they will never take my freedom.

Take a look at Somalia & Afghanistan & Iran & Iraq & Thailand & anywhere else they have either taken by violence or by migratory infiltration.
Tell that to the women who have been forced to have clitorectomies or forced to wear burkas or those who have been stoned to death for accusing a man of rape…
When you become complacent and say, “It could never happen to me” is exactly when it will happen.

The terrorists can not driectly take your freedom but the government is slowly taking our freedoms away due to terrorism. So therefore the terrorists are indirectly taking our freedoms away.
