I need the exact steps and some helpful tips to solve this equation y+ 10=x for y. I hear that you gotta isolate the variable. What does that mean? I need exact steps please. I really appreciate all help. Thank you everyone

To "isolate the variable" means to get the specific variable alone.

right now, you have "y plus 10". What do you need to do to get the "10" out of there? It's currently "plus 10" so if you "subtract 10", that 10 will go away. However, anything you do to one side of the = sign, you must do to the other side.

So...
y + 10 = x
y + 10 - 10 = x - 10
y + 0 = x - 10
y = x - 10

You're done!
*************
Another example:

y - 15 = x

Now you've got "y minus 15". To get the y alone, you need to "add 15" to both sides.

y - 15 + 15 = x + 15
y = x + 15
******************
Here's the next thing you'll see.

3y = x

Right now you have "3 times y". To get y alone this time, you need to do the opposite of multiply - which is divide. So, you'll divde both sides by 3.

3y / 3 = x / 3
y = x / 3

Conversely, if you have
y / 5 = x

Since that is "y divided by 5", you need to multiply both sides by 5 to get y alone.

(5)(y / 5) = 5(x)
y = 5x

I think that you have the answer.

x = y +10
or y = x - 10

so for y = 0; x =10
for x = 0; y = -10
this is x and y intercept

x = 0; y = -10
x = 1; y = -9
x = 2; y = -8 see a pattern?
x = 10; y = 0

With these points, you can graph a line.

it means getting the y variable all by its self on one side of the equals sign..

y+10=x (u need to get y all alone, to do that u need to subtract 10 from both sides)

y+10-10=x-10 (the +10 and -10 cancel out on the left side of the equals sign which leaves u with just y)

answer:
y=x-10 (now u have y all alone and u subtracted 10 from both sides which gives u y=x-10)

That means you need to get y by itself on one side of the = sign. This one should be simple. All you have to do is move the ten by subtracting ten from each side.

y + 10 -10= x -10

Ten minus ten is zero, so that will leave y by itself on one side of the equation. Subtacting ten from the other side will make it x -10. So the final answer will be: y = x-10

Hope this helps!

y + 10 = x

if you want to solve for y, only the terms containing y should remain on lefthand side.

so subtract 10 from both sides

y + 10 - 10 = x - 10

y = x - 10
so you have solved for y.
