What do his supporters have to say about that? How are we going to get to know him & his views better if he keeps declining to debate?

The debate was last night (9/20/07) in Iowa. Obama declined from attending without explanation. I actually learn a great deal about the candidates from these debates wether it's the Republicans or the Democrats debating.
I hope they keep them up.

I think if he keeps that up it will only hurt his chances for the presidency. The debates are a great opportunity to be heard & to influence voters. I'll be watching him.

I will give the low down about Obama and you may not like it but if you follow the links to the policitco.com articles and read it all you will not like or trust Obama.
He is the biggest liar on the campaign trail.
1.. He used an innocent man in Iowa to get free new and his PR people lied to keep the spin going. This man is a Armenian Physicist here doing some work with some of the most important programs for Universities and the Government. And he was helping a friend in Cincinnati Ohio out with his novelty card business when Obama used him read the links.
2. He is not a Christian as you will not find one Muslim saying a word about his so called conversation from Islam. You can convert to Islam but not away as it is called a fatwa or to us a death sentence. No one word about this.
3. He stated he would invade Pakistan who is an alley on terrorism and barely holding on with eh Islamic extremist there. Which was done by Obama to destabilize this country that has a nuke and I will add the only Muslim country that does. Why would he do this even Hillary knows this is very bad.
4. He last week said he would never use the Nuke which was a signal that if he wins that they the Islamic terrorist who wishes us all to be dead can do it and he will not act. Id this what you want for a president? No look at what Turkey did to Christians and they will end all of the things you love on the left as we are all infidels to them and the left here is satin itself.

You know, I think debates are a waste of time anyway. I listened to a few last election and the" who won" issue was really dumb. How do you decide who won? That is a matter of opinion. If you hear what you like you think they won. Most of them will just tell you what they think you want to hear no matter what they really think. So you miss a debate or two. The best way to do this is to let each have a time to tell you what they really believe and stand for on their own without the rest of the candidates there, then air what they have said one after another so they can't change just to say what the other one did with a little added to it according to the applause or comments the other candidates used. I don't know that I am for Obama, but I am not super sure that I am not for him, time will tell, but debates won't!

Have You given any thought to the possibility that the Clinton control commission succeeded in teaming up with Edwards to keep Obama out of the debate?? How anyone can waste time watching the Hillary and Edwards trash is beyond me. They barely had a quorum for the debate and as usual Hillary was protected from any hard questions.. Think about how that media control will expand if She gets the nomination.

What debate was this? He stayed to vote for Jim Webb's bill in the Senate Wednesday and the Iraq bill which was being debated and voted on YESTERDAY Thursday 9/20/07.
Please get your facts straight.
He postponed a trip to Charlotte to stay for the vote. This visit was not for a debate but was a visit to the area

He also didn't vote yesterday in the Senate on the bill that would limit how much time a soldier/marine would be allowed to spend in the States between deployements to Iraq.

Why would he "chicken out" of a debate? He's been to many debates before and has debated the same issues with the same people over and over again. He has no reason to be afraid of a debate. Maybe he had something else to do.

Don't know - I don't watch the Democrat debates since they are all socialists and won't vote for them.
If Lieberman was in there, I'd watch.
