I'm not from here, and it seems that so many people here don't wanna dial a long distance number sometimes.

Are you kidding? I've taken my (214) phone number with me from Dallas to Houston to Austin to College Station, back to Austin, to New Orleans to Victoria and back to Austin again...

That way my family can remember my number!!! not that I ever wanna talk to any of them...

Considering that cell phones charge by the minute, not by long distance, they can call wherever they want, whether it is a Houston number or not. There was a woman in a few of my grad school classes who had a New Orleans area code. That was only because that's where she got the plan.

I know many people (my wife's family is in the Conroe area) that have a Houston telephone number because they do call Houston frequently. I think you may have land lines confused with cell phones.

My boyfriend never changed his number when he moved here. That way his family (the most important people) can call him for free. When I moved to Philadelphia I never changed my number and I lived there for 5 years with a Houston number before moving back to Houston.

For the most part, most people have cell phones and most cell phone plans have free nationwide.

it is a hassle.. but, if people would program the numbers in, then they wont have to worry about it.. in most cases the carriers do not charge anymore for long distance
