Depends on the gown. If its even moderately see thru (even black can be see thru in certain light) be sure to wear underwear that matches your skin tone- not matches the dress. Go for seemless underwear. If necessary to go strapless make sure the bra or bodice holds you up. This is also a good time to invest in the sort of body suit, panties, or shorts that hold you in. You will be 2 sizes smaller and there won't be any bulges or lines. Evening gown are usually unforgiving. Fashion tape is good to keep things in place.

Usually with evening gown one wants to feel beautiful so probably some nice lingerie

Seamless underwear if you don't feel comfortable wearing nothing.You can get really nice seamless underwear(Bras,Thongs,Boxers) these days.
