He is not a hardcore gamer likes kiddy games nothing to scary , he has a wii but he wants the sonic hedgehog game which you get for both but im thinking long term something that will grow with him.

After that, a new one is usually introduced. The xbox has been out for 2 years and the PS3 has been out for 1 year.
Unless you have an HD TV and want the blu-ray player on the PS3,....the xbox 360 will cost less and give you the same in gaming experience. (I'm not sure you need the Elite version, it isn't faster...just has some hardcore-only features). Don't get caught up in the hoopla of which one is more powerful, faster, etc. It all depends on the game and the developer.
Base your decision on the games...there will be new versions of these consoles before you know it. Games are the key.
The big title and all the hype is currently abouy Halo3 which is an xbox 360 game only. It will never be ported to PS3....Microsoft owns the company that makes it.

If he's in to kiddie games, I would suggest you buy him a PS3. There are some games out for it that would be suitable for his age, and when he gets older, there will be a wider variety. Xbox 360 is for hardcore gamers. Halo 3 and gears of war are EXTREMELY violent and, well, it would be terrible if a 5 year old got to them...
To sum it up, PS3 is the way to go.

In the future, I believe PS3 would be better. Right now, PS3 does not have a lot of games that are good out. But the 360 has a ton of games out (Halo 3 coming next week =)). I myself have a 360 and love it. As soon as games like GTA, and Final Fantasy comes out for PS3... I'm gonna get one of those for sure.

well I would say stay with the ps3 only because I work for UPS as a driver and I see them(xbox) being return for problems , at lease 2-3 a week and that's only in my area which I drive., which I haven't seen any of the ps3 yet. this lead me to believe that there a problem with them.. also I own the ps3 and my 4,6,8 year old likes the kids games..

I would recommend the PS3 simply because the XBOX 360 has been having major hardware problems, with the "red ring of death". I recently read in Game Informer magazine that as many as 1/3 of the systems already sold may be faulty.

I'd suggest you to buy PS3, as you can download trial games, so you won't have to buy the whole games costing like $60 per game, and the way you've written the details, it seems your son is pretty young.. So, I doubt he'd realise if the game is trial, even.
And yeh, PS3 has better graphics than XBox 360 which is good for a longer run.

Xbox 360.. no need for the elite tho..all it is is black with more memory and stuff..and it WAS 700$...... u could just get the Premium 360..the PS3 is a rip off... 500-600 dollars..and its not built very well

i think ps3 cos it kool and it git better graphic than any other consloe and but ps3 is really high prices and game r for 55 euro in my country.
but there is other way 2 that ask ur son that does he want niinteno wii cos wii is the best and u r just move the stick and ppl in game move to.
and i think nindtendo wii is the best than ps3

The xbox by far. The PS3 is too harcore and expensive while the xbox has just as good graphics and more/better games.
