Nigeria won the gold medal by beating Argentina (silver medal) 3-2. The final match was played in front of 86,117 spectators in the Stanford Stadium Athens, Georgia.
Argentina had a 2-1 lead before Nigerian Daniel Amokachies goal equalizer 74 minute. With only 1 minute remaining in regulation time Emmanuel Amunike took advantage of a botched offside trap and beat goalkeeper Pablo Cavallero from point blank range for the winning goal.
