I sold a $500 worth dell desktop on ebay, buyer doesn't have paypal so I suggested WU, He just email me with MTCN number that $500 is ready to pick up, is that a safe transaction?

Actually yes. If YOU sold the item and the buyer sent YOU western union then the money is most likely there. Once you receive the cash from western union then the cash is good. The confusion of answers on this post was the fact about western union scams from the buyers end. In the past and still current people try and get buyers to send western union payments to them and never send a item. The scenario is differnet if you are the one receiving western union. Pick up the money from western union and go from there.

Absolutely not. Western Union is not a safe payment method for use on eBay. Advise your buyer to get his money back from them and send you a money order from USPS. Don't ship the item until you have cashed the money order.

The thing is, that you suggested Western Union, not him.

The crooks usually want you to send them money via Western Union, not send you money that way. They want you to because it is safe for them.

It sounds okay, but get your cash from Western Union first.
