I am using windows home premium vista. I have burned a film to dvd but it wont work. It will play on the pc though. Any ideas what settings to choose when i burn it. anyone.

It depends on what type of file youre burning. such as WMA, MP4, AVI, MPEG, etc.

Burning movie to DVD that will play on Video DVD players involves serious conversion / re-encoding. It's NOT a drag-and-drop operation. You need additional software than what Vista provides natively. Something like Nero Suite or Easy Media Suite for neophytes.

Getting a new burner isn't the way to burn movies to DVD's. You have to get a program that can read the movie on your computer and then convert it to a file that will play on your DVD Burner. That process is call video compression. The program that does this is called video codec. A very popular and easy to use video codec is called, Divix. Download that free and it will be easier to burn a lot of different types of videos from your computer to your DVD Disc.

to play movies on dvd player you need to have them in vob extension not avi,unless u have a divx support in your dvd player.
use a program like winavi to converte the movie to dvd format and burn it with nero.
