It stays on for about 2 seconds after I start.. is this something to worry about? The car is a 99 Neon. I don't have the manual, so I can't read what it means.

It's ok then if all the other lights have already gone out? I know they're supposed to be on, but it's on after the e-brake light and the battery lights are out.. but only 2 seconds longer.. just clarifying. I'm not a total idiot when it comes to cars.....lol.

on way to check your neon to see if there is a prob, is turn the ingition on ( but not starting it all the way just on ) then off, do this 3 times, then look in the digital mileage where the miles are and code will pop up for example P2505 or other codes, write them down, once all the codes cycle thru it will say done. You can do this over and over till you get all the malfunctioning codes, then go to the part store and see what neds to be replaced. Simple, yet cheap and effective. Especially when position sensors go out. Been there done this as my office 2000 neon has 224k miles racked up email me if you need help

This is normal. It's called a bulb check. The light should come on for a few seconds and stay out while driving. Nothing to be concerned about.

no i really don't think you have much to worry about. if the light just comes on when you start and then goes off 2 secs after there should be no reason to worry. just keep an eye on it and if anything take it to auto-zone or something like that. they do free computer hook up to check a check engine light.

Most cars do that, it's basically testing all of the dash lights, worry only if it stays on.

Yep, usually the light will activate after start-up briefly to show you its functioning. If it doesn't come back on while driving then I wouldn't worry about it.

you should only worry about it if it stays on even after you keep drving. its normal for it to tuen on when you turn on the car.

It's normal.
If it comes on while driving, or STAYS on then you should have it checked.
