I believe that some people are born gay and that some are influenced by their peers and are just confused. I am not homophobic. I am confused as to how someone with no life experiences can know they are gay. Do you know even younger?

I think at 13 most people have a good idea of what they are interested in sexually, the confusing part only comes in because kids are taught that its wrong and unnatural. sothey naturally suppress or deny those natural tendencies. Some kids know younger, its a very individualistic.

Sure they know. But many also think they're gay when it turns out they're not. My teacher said his mother said she always knew when he was coming to visit. Every time he walked in the door, she'd say, "I just told your father this morning at breakfast, 'I'll bet Fred is coming over today,' and here you are!" Of course, Dad had to explain that she said that EVERY day at breakfast. As in, "A watch that is broken is right at least twice a day.

By the way, no one can be "influenced by their peers" to be gay, to be attracted by members of their own sex. How do you imagine that that could possibly work? It's not just "some people are born gay", it's everyone who is gay is born that way. Again, it generally just doesn't become apparent until their teens or later.

Yes you can feel this way at 13. I believe that people can feel attraction to the same sex or opposite sex when they are very young even. As in when people experience a crush on someone. I do not believe people are born gay, though some say they are, many say they are not, as Cheryl Swoopes the famous basketball player, says she was not born gay. I think attractions happen in the brain, in the emotions and feelings and this comes about through our perceptions, life experiences, personality tendancy etc. No we definitely are not born gay. Gay activism would like everyone to think people are born gay because then it will be easier to get special rights for their groups. However black people will tell you being gay is not the same kind of experience as being black and most blacks resent gay folks trying to proclaim this. I know several people who lived a gay lifestyle for several years and then got out of it. But I don't know one ex-black person and don't expect to meet one. We live in a culture that promotes anything goes, so if being gay is in fashion, many young people will try it and get hooked onto that kind of life. Especially someone who has emotional feelings toward that kind of attractions. It is a struggle to walk away once you get involved because sexual experiences become habits. Yes I definitely believe a young person of 13 could feel and think they are gay. They should search their hearts, share with loved ones and seek to know why they feel this way and what they can do about dealing their feelings. There is much help and assistance today for people who feel they are gay but don't want to be involved in that way of life. There are many, many who have had this experience and have overcome it.
There is help for anyone who wants it.

Of course, I have known I've been bisexual since about age 12.

However, I don't think I was born that way. It might be ironic to hear me say that, but I didn't have any sexual preference to either gender until late childhood, which was about 11 or 12 (I'm 14 now). When I started to develop attractions, the same sex appealed to me in addition to the opposite sex. I just thought it was just another adolescent phase that I heard people going on and on about at the time, but now I know better than that. I am bisexual and that isn't going to change anytime soon.

Its a known fact that people are born gay. My cousin is 14 and is gay. They may have more life experiences than you think, I mean think about it, how old were you when you were first attracted to the opposite sex? like 12 or 13? yeah well gay people arent, and they realize they like the same sex.

The process of a young child finding out they are gay would involve molestation, a sexual act, because thoughts don't make you gay. If they did, many of us would be jail for crimes we only thought of, in trouble with our wives for appreciating a beautiful woman, etc. It is a question that older people with a gay orientation are placing in the minds of children.

A food analogy is helpful. A practicing vegetarian may do so for any number of reasons: perhaps he has a genetic-based craving for veggies and dislike for meat; or he avoids meat and sticks to veggies for religious, spiritual, or health reasons; or perhaps he had a bad experience with being forced or coerced to eat meat as a child or the reverse, he learned to associated love and comfort with vegetables. The point is that, regardless of the root cause/s for limiting his diet to vegetables, he is a vegetarian because of his decisions regarding his diet, which may or may not be in alignment with his values, cravings or feelings. Bottom line, vegetarian status is based on diet, the meat cravings or preference may be there, but dietary choices are what define the term.. The same analogy can be applied to the gay issue. The big difference is values, whether you think meat is nutritionally or spiritually good or bad, and whether or not meat-lovers should be influencing young children to eat meat, or influencing a historically vegetarian culture to become meat-eaters.

I learned that I liked guys in 4th grade.By the time I was 13 I was comfortable in my ways.I did try girls just so I wouldn't be called a virgin by heterosexuals the rest of my life. And I didn't want people to tell me that I cant say I don't like girls because I never tried it out.So yes,a 13 year old who is firmly in touch with themselves will know what they like.I don't know about being born gay as that is not my situation.Mine was a conscious choice.I compared the two sexes and made a choice to go with the one I liked better.Just like people are not born criminals, they make a choice to commit crimes.

This question comes up a lot... "how does one know before they experience"...

one way i can explain is... how do you know you're NOT gay if you've never had a same sex experience...

I knew from birth...

... also... sexuality is not just the mechanical part... it's who you find you have a "crush" on in younger years... who you CONSTANTLY think about... who you wish you were sitting next to... who you want to grow up and "marry"...who you picture yourself with... and then ultimately who you wanna do icky things with...

I have seen TV shows where people said they knew when they were 7. I agree that it is something you are born with I don't
think you can become gay by hanging out with gay people. I think people are becoming more accepting of gay people these days which I think is a good thing. everyone should be who they are! : )
