Yup. Harden your PC with anti-virus, anti-spyware and a registry guardian like WinPatrol to keeps intruders away. Works great for my desktops and laptops.

yes, you should have anti-spyware

contrary to what all the fanboys will tell you, Firefox is not a cure-all.

Use something like Javacool's SpywareBlaster for resident protection (remember to update it weekly at least, it won't remind you). Look through it's options. You do want to check wherever it says "Lock IE's HOST file" (or something like that) - even though you're using Ffx you still need that.

(I'd give you more info on all that but I'm using Linux right now, try Googling "SpywareBlaster options" or whatever and you'll probably find more info on it.)

Also run CCleaner periodically (click by green arrow on right): http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Also scan with this periodically: http://www.superantispyware.com/
(you could use Spybot and Ad-aware also, but go with that for now for the sake of simpicity. It's a start and I heard that was good.)

(all those are free)

------

You can go into the preferences of Ffx and set it to delete all that stuff everytime it closes (I do that). Preferences > Privacy > click on the "Private Data" Settings button and check everything you want cleared. Then check "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox".

(Uncheck the "Ask me before clearing private data" if you don't want the message pop up everytime.)

You can set Firefox to do that automatically each time you exit the program (tools/options/privacy/private data). That has nothing to do with spyware. You still need some type of protection.
