Ty should have had more time, and Weiss deserves time as well. Every team should be allowed to be good and bad within 4 or 5 year cycles. They were pretty good last year, which is the pique of their cycle. They fell to the bottom pretty quickly, but this is what happens when seniors graduate. They should be good enough next year to make a minor bowl game, the year after a better bowl, and the year after that be in a major bowl game. That continuously rebuilding is what makes good or bad coaches. Good coaches aren't necessarily always on top. USC is an aberation, and will probably fall on hard times for longer because of it. (Look at Miami now, and where they were 5 years ago)

This is tough and I don't know how they will handle the RACE question that will come up when Weiss is not fired after this season. Tye Willingham fallowed the same path Weiss has, success in the beginning but failure in the third season and he was fired. Notre Dame did just sign Weiss to an extention something they did not do for Willingham, pretty messed up if you ask me. But Weiss does have less talent right now (because they are young) then Willingham did. But the only success Weiss has had was with Brady Quinn a QB recruited by Willingham. (Just something to think about)

Everyone want to give him a pass because he didn't have his own players. I agree a coach should have at least 5 yrs to prove himself.
Terry...you say this is the first year he had the players he recruited. So why didn't they give Ty the chance to prove his skills with the players he recruit. The players Ty recruited may have been a great fit in his system but wouldn't work in Weiss'. Allow me to go ahead and rebutt you may try to make that Weiss has proven himself and Ty hasn't. I bet to differ. He proved that he can turn a squad around if given the time. Look at what he did at Stanford. Now look at Wash they are on the improving much faster then Notre Dame. Ty is a classy guy.

This is a Notre Dame coach....Those high profile teams should not be given more than 2 maybe 3 years to fix a team like that

Weis' recruiting classes are only the frosh and soph classes. The senior class is Ty Willingham's, the junior all messed up because of the delay in getting Weiss hired. So saying that Weiss chose his talent is only half right.

I'd give Weis his five years. By then the entire roster is all his recruited talent.

A college coach is really judged by his 4th season, because he has 3 draft classes behind him, so pretty much he's worked with the Seniors and redshirt Juniors for 3 seasons and everyone else is his doing.

He was gifted a very talented team at 1st now we find out if he really can be a College coach and prove he can recruit. So far not so good, but I wouldn't count him out just yet.

He should be fired I am tired of everybody blaming Ty for the inept coaching abilities of Weis. Fatass charlie needs to learn how to coach on the college level. Plain and simple. The biggest problem I have with everybody blaming Ty for this is that nobody gave ty credit when notre Dame was winning and making it to bowl games. When that happened it was all Charlie, now that the team sucks its all because of Ty give me a break.

That man got his job because of the racist machine that is still in control in this country. Ty was a good coach. It look to me like he was a lot better than ol fatass Weis.

Notre Dame is in financial despair. Charlie Weis has eaten over 2.8 million dollars worth of polish sausage since he was hired. The Athletic director, Kevin White, recently confronted Weis about his habitual habit of eating 3 whole pigs per day. Weis said that he was sorry and he would do his best to curb his eating habits. White hired a personal trainer to stay with Weis at all times. On the 5th day of Weis's diet, he lost him self and ate the personal trainer, whole. Notre Dame football is broke. They can not afford to pay their players, the players mothers or the players babies mama's, like USC does. That is why Notre Dame football is heading down the proverbial crapper.

You're an idiot...Weis didn't have his own players until this year...and the problem is, they're all freshman and sophomores...

livapoop...Its not exactly a national security secret that ND wanted Urban Meyer...I like Willingham...Classy guy...I live near where he grew up...and I think he got screwed because of supporters who wanted ND to win NOW...but I also know the reality is his recruiting classes, with the exception of Brady Quinn, Jeff Samardzija, and Rhema McKnight, brought ND down...They were out of the top 20 in recruiting consistently...Unheard of at ND...
