Well even though he was democratically elected..in recent years he's becoming more and more authoritarian and it's scaring a lot of people because of it. He passes himself as a Democratic Socialist but he's starting to look more Stalin with his actions. I think he's a dictator in the making.

I absolutely DO NOT agree. If he does anything "beneficial" for the country it's probably because he benefits more than anyone else. Please, unless you've lived in Venezuela, or any other country Chavez has poisoned, you really don't know much of what you're talking about.

Chavez is a dictator, a new breed of dictators. You see, he didn't take EVERYTHING away as soon as he got to power. In Venezuela we say he is cooking us like frogs because he puts the frogs in warm water and slowly cranks up the heat, before we know we're in boiling water half-dead. He created inflation, he is partially to blame for the high oil prices we see today, and has literally taken away our freedom of speech.

He took our freedom of speech by restricting what we can or can not say. If he does not like what he hears on the television, for example, he takes away the channel and puts one that benefits his image. This was basically what happened to RCTV, and after this we all went to the street, screamed our lungs out, painted out hands with peace signs, wanting for the government to return the channel - we were thousands of students. Sadly the government claimed that we were NOT thousands but a few hundred, and responded to our peaceful march (I don't what it's called) with teargas, and arrests.

Next time that you praise Chavez, get your facts straight. The only people who praise him are his followers, which aren't that many. I hate Chavez, and if you *love* him - I wouldn't shout it out here.

Yes, I do agree.

South America has long been dogged by right-wing political leaders, most of whom were nothing else but puppets of the US government and of the CIA. And some were even worse, being outright morons who had no consideration for anyone but themselves.

But is seems that South America is now coming of age, with Hugo Chavez as the new Primus inter pares, the first among equals of Latin-American leaders. He is strong, healthy and could be around for many years. And he has also the benefit of being in charge of a country with large oil reserves.
Bush and his cronies would love to get their hands on that oil, and that is the reason why they hate Chavez so much. But the former General of the Venezuelan Army is more than a match for the aging cluster of criminals and war criminals in the White House. And I wish him and his people the best of luck.

Chavez cares about Chavez PERIOD! Anybody that shuts down a TV station that is run by the people, instead of the government, is not showing concern about his people.

Yes, he does "nice" things for his people. But don't be fooled he has become a dictator and free speech and other human rights abuses are starting to become common place. He is popular because he belittles the U.S., this doesn't make him a good person or leader. He kind of reminds me of a Hitler in the making.

Primarily he cares that his people can't oust him from office.

Saddam used to "stand up to America" about a variety of issues. Of course he ended up with both his country and his neck broken.

He recently got himself elected President for Life and the outfit he was wearing on TV made him look like General Tito. He's just another banana republic dictator.

No, he only cares about his own delusions, his position of power, and his support for Castro's communist wars!
