both Petraeus and the Swift Boat Vets are seen by much of the country as highly decorated soldiers, and who are associated with the view that America's military is honorable?
It seems to me that both MoveOn.org, with its "Betray Us" ad, and Kerry, with his many horrific accusations against US soldiers and his throwing away his medals (as well as his comment about US troops "terrorizing" women and children and his "botched joke") are both associated in much of the public's mind with the opinion that America's military is somehow evil, dishonorable (in the sense of lying) or in the wrong.
For better or worse (I think for better), the general public seems very much to want to believe the best about our military, not the worst. And anyone with a contrary view will have an uphill battle to say the least.
Are politicians who don't come out and agree with MoveOn, but don't condemn them either, trying to have it both ways?

I think that the politicians that have yet to speak out against moveon are owned by moveon and have a vested interest in not provoking them to withdraw support and money. I think the public as a whole supports veterans, know that the US military does it's very best to not harm non-combatants and have very difficult rules of engagement. We make it a point to prosecute our own military, ie Lt. Calley, or Abu graub (sp) personnel if they step out of bounds. I am glad we do this, we are suppose to be the good guys, and hurting innocents does us absolutely no good. Politicians are in the business to get votes, I would think that if the politicians came out in said that they were against the ad in the first place they would have garnered much more support then they will now. It's bad form and now has shifted attention off of their message and will no doubt haunt them for awhile.

I in no way would desire to comprehend that. i presumed it replaced right into a draw between that and Ws national preserve deal. besides he better be cautious as invoice stated Hillery replaced into one, no kidding I caught the top of it and he replaced into speaking at a stand witha microphone, invoice replaced into, he won't have been leaning on it. as properly he and W are the two cranium and Bones adult men if that fairly ability something aout the recent international Order i think of i'm going to start scoping all that out, reason why might he even carry it up if there not something there. fact is one bullet, this is all it takes. Take care. OH i presumed he did it for Kerry, not against him.

Greetings. one must be very cautious in broad statements. we have a large military, composed of many people from all walks of life. mainly from the lower classes and not the privilaged classes, other then our officer corps of course. The general public is generally pretty blind and wants to believe that their son or daughter is risking their life in a honest and patriotic war. They do not question that in a large group of people, like our military, you will find those that in civilian life would be on death row if they were not protected by the military. You will find hero's and cowards, like our president there as well. MoveOn stated a fact. with a fact it is not necessary for everyone to like it. it stands on its own. it is a fact that what was in the supposed to be secret and totally his own statement to the congress was talked about just about word for word, before he gave it to congress. it is also a fact that his statement said exactly what the president has said. when you parrot someone elses comments you are not making a original statement, but repeating it like a tape recorder. General Betray Us is a blotch on the honor of the U.S. Marine Corps. who are noted for bravery, regardless of the odds. not on pandering to political wishes as the good general did. And when one is lying, as the Gop is, it is common to condemn things without bothering to give unavailable proof that they are actually lies or wrong. note no one is yelling about how Honorable the Generals statements were. nor is anyone bothering to ask the Grunts on the ground in Iraq what they see as the situation there. the opinion of some barracks trooper far from the action and far from the battles have very little weight about war. never did. And the GOP mentions that general betray us is a decorated Marine. he has never been in combat before. never been shot at or shot at an enemy of the people in combat. just what was all the salad on his uniform for? Certainly not the congressional medal of honor for outstanding bravery in combat, or the silver star or the bronze star for a little less bravery in combat. any other decoration on a military officers uniform is just that. decoration, not medals of honor. Only one other then medals for bravery that belong there are ones like the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat.

Lets look at two other situations. Hillary Clinton basically said Patraeus is a liar yet when asked what she thought about Ahmadinnerjacket coming to ground zero she said "I have no position on that" So you can attack a US war hero but have no opinion on a proven terrorist organizer who has his hands on the deaths of 1000s of Israelis and if not the same number of US soldiers.
Then you have Columbia university who is bringing Ahmadinnerjacket to campus to give a speech. again someone who is directly involved with killing US soldiers, has said he can envision a day without the US and Israel, yet Columbia doesn't allow US military on their campus.
these people are delusionally twisted or just simply hate this country. there is no other explanation

You're wrong. The general public needs to know the truth about war, not the sugar coated WWII propaganda movie version of the truth. The general public needs to know that in a war most all the soldiers are noble and honorable but some of them do dreadful and horrible things in our name and get others to participate with them. The general public should not be asked to commit our young people to war thinking that they are going into a movie set not knowing how horrid it is going to be. The general public cannot vote intelligently without knowing true facts good or bad.
Do you have so little faith in our system that you believe the truth must be withheld in order to get the American people to support what is right? Have we learned not one darn thing in the last fifty years?
Everybody knows all soldiers don't slaughter civilians but everybody should know that some soldiers do.....and don't say that we know that without saying, by refusing to speak truth you enable those who "very much WANT to believe the best about our military, not the worst" to continue in their fantasy world and continue to commit our people to something they know nothing about because our leaders want us to withhold some of the facts.
Here's the thing - in committing to a war we as a nation are committing to taking some immoral actions and we should not do this unless the people who vote actually know that we are doing this. Then when we do the war the people will continue to support it because they will know what they were getting in to. In this war, we were misled into a cakewalk and some flower tossing and look what we got...
