The Constirtution. Democracy's been around for a long time, and it's never worked too well except in works of fiction. America's just a country. All country's fall in the end due to corruption and greed. The Constitution, however, will continue to inspire people for as long as men may read. It is the greatest accomplishment of the new world.

Patriotism is about the "Patria", the homeland.
Being patriotic should be to put the homeland over all. But what's good for the homeland?
In terms of natural environment, it would be good to get rid of all of us. In terms of economic growth, it would be great to get rid of the government and its regulations. It's not easy to find out what's good for something so ethereal as the homeland.
If you read again my first definition and compare that to "Deutschland über alles" you'll find out that there's a striking similarity. The nazi government was extremely patriotic and they set clear rules about what's good for the homeland.
So be careful with what you wish because you're wish may come true.
From a libertarian perspective I think that we can and we should love our country because it's ours and we have to make it lovable, it's our responsibility. And we have to love our Constitution because it's our commitment to live together as a society, we have to make love it, we have to make it lovable, it's our responsibility. Under a libertarian system, democracy is not relevant. We should have some and love it and cherish it. But with a government dedicated to its natural purpose, the administration of the public things (the "res publica", the republic) and with the smallest possible republic, all I need is a responsible person with administrative talents. And if I don't get it, it wouldn't be a big deal.
The problem with democracy right now is that the one you choose to "lead" is in charge of your life. His decisions are so powerful that he can ruin your life with a twist of his pen. Socialist presidents all around the world are doing that as we speak. Democrat politicians only have to increase the number of voters that support them to take over and put all the rest on their knees "legally". And they've done that already. Wherever you are, look for the number of government employees. Add to that the number of non working people supported by social programs. Now compare that to the number of workers that produce real wealth, those creating services and products that the market wants. Once the balance falls to their side (and already did), the real working man is a slave. Democratically, they can request from you whatever they want "legally". Tribute, servitude, submission, anything.
What is more "patriotic"? Kneel in front of the "leader" or claim your freedom back?
Remember the revolution? They went to a war for a mere 5% in taxes. The king was taking that much from them. Outrageous!!!
The government is taking today more than 60% from your paycheck...

The constitution contributes to the democracy that we have, which is also the reason America's government is the way it is, so basically loving one means you love all three.

The way I see it, the three are intertwined and inseparable the way they were originally meant and established.
Now, one can say that they dislike the current condition of America, or changes to the constitution, or the democratic process as it operates in this nation, without being unpatriotic.
But I'd say that loving America is the most patriotic of all.

from my understanding it is honoring and upholding the us constitition even if some of the things in there are misunderstood or is unpopular with the majority. if someone would to ask me what is loyalty to God's Kingdom is loving others or whatever? No I would say honoring and obeying the bible. putting it's mandates first as it is the constitution of God's government (which is in heaven no government on earth is his or under his control)
in that constitution is the mandate to love they neighbor for example, (not the affection you get when you know someone and like them very well)no but rather a agape love which is a god like love a deliberate assert of your will to show love tho in a limited fashion meaning you would try to help them if you can and you avoid hurting them as much as possible without compromising righteous principles. that is why I can appreciate people who want to be patrotic to the us constitition..

The constitution because man will always try to enslave his fellow man if he can .
It might be a nice cage but a cage none the less .
By building a society that is unaware of true freedom and institutionalized to respect a chain of command regardless because if you disagree you are no longer welcome to the nice cage and must fend among the uneducated immigrants who know even less about what freedom is .
