As an Englishman who runs the biggest company in the USA i feel i must ask this.
Many ot the Americans who i own struggle to spell simple words correctly.Here are a few examples of the poor skooling they have;
Correct incorrect
Colour Color
Theatre Theater
Flavour Flavor
Humour Humor
Skool School

I have sacked most of the Americans who i own because they obviously have failed at skool.

Very funny. I prefer the American spellings because we drop those totally unnecessary letters.

Also, here in lower Manhattan, we have a street named “Centre” Street. I think it’s long past time to change it to the correct spelling.

American spelling diverges slightly from british, but the differences are trivial. More to the point is the american tendency towards verbosity. The word "transportation", for instance: why add the two redundant syllables? Also, I remember a local sherrif's comment concerning a british national imprisoned in his jail. He did not say "we've got him locked up here", or something like that. No, he said "he is incarcerated in our prison facility" Why do they do this?

I truly hope that you use the word 'skool' as an added sarcasm to the the American language. The poor spelling, and grammar, provided by the average American is monumentously poor. Why they feel the need to further prove their stupidity by spelling English, the language they speak, completely wrong is amazing. Back to 'skool' I think.....

I've always wondered about that too. Why would you want to add an unnecessary letter to a word, that at the end of the day does not make a difference whatsoever if its there or not?...uhmmm ....maybe its the brit's way of getting some self-steem...

I wouldnt talk about poor education, I recall the infamous "chavs" in my visit over there, gosh....ghetto does not even begin to describe them..

The spelling of English english and America english varies. Both are right according to their own individual spelling books or dictionaries. The language still has the same basis but with national and regional variations.. No point in being too pedantic about it. Asyou are in Americait would be as well to accept their version of things. ( I think this is a wind up by the way)

ational Education Association has decreed that spelling isn't important.

When my children were growing up, teachers told them (and us) that spelling wasn't important -- that children learning to write needed to be "authors" first, and that spelling would come later. My wife and I decided that this concept was pure bulls##t, and proceeded to grill the kids on spelling properly. As a result, they are all in college (or graduated) with productive jobs.

Hi Sid. You must be more selective when you are taking on staff. Give them a short spelling test. You may also wish to test them on simple arithmetic without the use of a calculator. You were quite right to fire your minions for their spelling mistakes, but remember, although they may be unable to spell correctly (and other words) they may talented in other ways. I especially discovered this among female staff. You'll have to get them to use the spelling checker for words such as humour.

Lol, the differences between British English and American English are no worse than the differences between modern British English and Olde English. Familiar with the thorn? It was the British that dropped it from the alphabet, not Americans.

Funny question...

I was gonna blame the Cristyin Krusaid Agaynst Litracey before seeing the details.

It was our Noah Webster who first standardised English orthography. You Brits glommed onto it and changed things enough to claim you did it.

Y'all never did learn proper English.
