It is used for a work van and otherwise runs great. Have replaced the fuel pump and filter but it still does the same thing. Can use it around town with no problem but if I go any distance it will begin to stall. If I wait 10 or 15 minutes it will start up again. When the problem occurs the tacometer will lay flat when I try to start it. After a few minutes, when I try to start it the tac will start to jump and will start. What could be the problem? Could it be a switch or sensor. What is the most likely cause and could you elaborate? Thanks.

Have the computer scanned for codes! It could be the throttle positioning sensor, or the crank sensor. My money would be on the crank sensor!

A compression attempt is the place you're measuring the compression in a cylinder. in fact, the develop of atmospheric stress. quite, it won't remember (or shouldn't) what number plugs you get rid of. forget the distributor twine. The attempt does not concern any electric stuff. you will deploy the meter into the plug port and turn the engine over to objective the compression. in case you're actually not interior the tolerance special you have issues including rings. besides, the engine should not be working for the period of the attempt.

Could be the ECM. Could be the ignition switch. Could be the fuel filter. I could go on and on, but there is not enough room here. Save yourself some headaches and have it fixed at a reputable shop. This will save you downtime and therefore be worth the expense beings as it is a work van.

I would first see if your losing ignition spark when it cranks but won't start using the spark tester below. Once you know whether it's losing spark or not, you will know whether it's an ignition or fuel problem. I'll bet on an ignition problem!

check your oxygen sensor it will cause the stalling, as for the tach , check your brain then if that does nothing, look on your passenger side firewall for a secondary box connecting the brain and the "celle inside it, replace that and it should cure your issue.
