Because people think that the money is being wasted. They forget that without it (in the UK) there would be no state funded education or health. The armed forces are funded through taxation, imagine if there was no army, Royal Navy or RAF in 1939 because no one payed income tax.

Yes money is wasted, but more good is done. Also, remember business wastes money as well, look at the fiasco with Northern Rock for a recent example.

UK. It's not income tax that's the problem. It's getting taxed on everything else besides.

For example: You work - you pay tax at source. If by some miracle you manage to save a little you get taxed again on the interest you've made on the money that's already been taxed.

VAT was introduced as a tax on luxury goods. It now covers just about everything you buy - including the bag of chips from the local chip shop.

It is not known as rip off Britain for nothing. As a final example: the price of fuel has risen about 12p per litre over the last year. In Croatia it's gone up 2p. So much for the much publicised rise due to market fluctuation. Every business dealing in the UK sees it as a licence to print to money - simply because we accept it as a way of life.

Since governments started levying taxes thousands of years ago people have complained. This is nothing new. It is human nature. However those same people would complain if there was no pay for the soldiers or funds for infrastructure. They would complain if there was no way of paying for police protection or for the fire department to put out fires in the neighborhood. They are the same ones who would complain if there was no money to pay for teachers or buildings called schools for the teachers to work in. They could carp about the lack of clean water or parks for their families to relax in. The problem is not taxing people it is people complaining as they have for thousands of years and probably will for the next millennium too.

Tax means you have worked so many hours and part of your pay is taken off so some people begrudge that.

Personally it wasn't paying tax that got to me but the fact that any overtime i did was not paid apart hence ... Tax took away most of my overtime (If not the whole lot). So that is what i begrudged.

The whole concept is insane. The government takes my money BEFORE I get to use it; before I have a chance to buy a single morsel of food, put a roof over my head, or buy anything necessary for my survival. That's madness. The government should not be able to take a single dollar in taxes until I have provided for my basic survival needs.

It is simple. I work hard for every dime I earn. Why should I give it to a government that squanders money like it grew on trees? If the government used money for the poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and so on, then I wouldn't mind but to squander it on war and to rebuild a nation like Iraq when our infrastructure is falling apart....no way!
