You could try some Turtlewax chrome cleaner, or the Maas product, which removes tarnish. I have had some success with brass lamps using this product. If the pitting is too bad, it is there to stay.

Depends on how bad the pitting is.
If it is not too deep ,you might get away with a fairly hard buffing wheel using coarse " cutting" rouge.
Use the largest buffs you can find .
For a one shot deal a bench grinder or even a fast drill might do depending on size of the piece..
Best to "cut " a large area around the pitting or the entire piece to feather out any depressions left by cutting.
Follow up w/ finer buffing & " coloring rouges & softer wheels.
Try" Caswell Inc. specialized buffing compounds".
Not a job for a Dremel type tool unless it is a very small piece...it will just dig holes.
Best regards

You can't remove pitting. You can polish and shine the brass as best you can, but pitting is permanent.

1 and 2 are both valid answers. Pitting, even in solid, can be cleaned, but not strictly removed, without degrading the substance. Plated is a SIN in my opinion
